History

The Kenora Fellowship Centre started as a meeting place for resdiential school students and their families. A residence was needed for family members to stay when they came to the community for visits and/or medical care. Thus, the Fellowship Centre was formed. When Cecilia Jaffray School ceased operations, The needs switched from residential to a ministry under the Presbyterian Church in Canada that served as a gathering place for former students and other members of surrounding First Nations. Later on it became a place for all people facing poverty and homelessness to attend.

The current building was built in 1971 continuing to function as a drop-in centre operating on weekdays. The Centre’s response to the needs of marginalized citizens has expanded programming to its current service level. Unfortunately needs are great and our resources are limited. We are now a full time operation functioning as a drop-in centre during the day, and an overnight emergency hostel in the evenings. As well we have a room and board program downstairs that is shared living and is low rent, due to the crisis of low income housing in kenora.

The Kenora Fellowship Centre is continuing to grow and expand by creating partnerships with other local organizations. The centre continues to work in harm reduction in our community. we are always trying to make a better living for those in need. We want to enhance and encourage better lifestyles and succes's. Although the building has changed, the mission of the organization has stayed the same
